Physiotherapeutic rehabilitation exercise after stroke

Goal of the exercise:

  • Improved coordination during walking
  • Attaining normal rhythmical walk
  • Improved coordination of the arms
  • Returning back to ordinary day life activities
  • Involving body in correct movement stereotypes
  • Suppressing wrong movement reactions
  • Inducing new and better movement reactions
  • Stabilized walk
  • Stronger grip
  • Smooth performance of everyday life movements
  • Improved control and stability of the trunk
  • Rediscovery and improvement of certitude
Default position
  • Stand up and stay straight 
  • Step forward with your weaker leg
  • Try to feel support in the weaker leg
Phase 1
  • Remain to keep a firm support in the weakened leg, and at the same time push your weaker leg forward - remain to keep the support yourself by the weakend leg - next to the healthy leg.
  • Repeat.

Common mistakes

  • Leaning backwards
  • Deflecting the pelvis to the sides while walking
  • Leaning forwards
  • Extreme stretch in the knees
  • Knees collapse into the “x” shape, make sure to fix your knees

How often to exercise

  • if you experience problems during walking, exercise few times a day, if you are able to perform the exercise correctly
