Reflexive therapy of the foot soles

Reflexive therapy of the foot soles is an old method established on the knowledge that there are number of points and surfaces, which correspond with single organs and parts of the body through nerve connection.

Each part of the human organism can be affected by pressure on the points located on the foot soles, toes, insteps and in the area of the ankle, but also on hands, and backs of the fingers. Pressure or caresing of these reflexive points can targetly treat the relating organ or part of the body. Reflexive therapy can also stimulate, if the organ works insufficiently and needs a boost of energy, or on the other hand if it needs to relax, if it’s in a condition of acute inflammation or pain.

Interestingly enough, it is possible to say that the same principle is used in acupressure (reflexive points are stimulated by intensive pressure of the fingers) or acupuncture (reflexive points are stimulated by needles inserted into the body). Stimulation of reflexive points leads to removal of energetic imbalance of single organs in the body and harmonization of the energy flow in the meridians - acupuncture or energetic pathways.

ORIGINS OR REFLEXIVE THERAPY

Reflexive therapy (reflexology) is more than one thousand years old asian massage technique, which is also considered to be one of the most effective methods of alternative medicine and self-treatment. It is based on the holistic principles and presumption that on the ends of the body (feet and hands) are located nerve endings, which have a relation to internal organs. According to reflexology all the organs or parts of the body have their reflexive area (reflexive surface) on the feet. Apart from feet, the reflexive surfaces can be found also on the hands, ears etc…

HOW DOES IT WORK - ABOUT ANATOMY

Every part of the body is supplied with nerves from one segment of the spinal cord. Imagine it as a single cable, which leads to more appliances in one room. All the organs and tissues around the spinal cord are simultaneously affected by complexive neural reflexive connections. If they are severed or one of the organs is ill, the organism tries to affect this problem with reflexive connections. Irritating any tissue will evoke response in other tissues around the spinal cord.

Reflexive changes on the surface of the body during disability of an internal organ are several. On the skin are zones with increased sensitivity and painfulness. Changes of the blood supply of the skin are common as well. Changes in the subcutaneous ligaments are manifesting with skin being slightly pulled inwardly and by lowered mobility of the skin against the lower layers. The muscles in the specific area are generally painful, tensioned and even convulsively contracted.

FOOT SOLES CAN BE DIVIDED INTO REFLEXIVE ZONES

On each sole are five longitudinal zones, into each zone belongs one toe. On the inner side (big toe) of the foot starts the first zone. On the outer side (pinky toe) ends the fifth zone. Big toe which represents the head, can be then divided on five supportive zones.

The principle of mutual reflexive affecting consists of for example: zone 1 on the left half of the body corresponds with zone 1 on the left foot sole. Zone 3 of the left foot corresponds with zone 3 of the left half of the body, etc…

Determining the single reflexive surfaces is based on the division of the human body on:

  • 10 longitudinal zones, which run in the same distances across the whole body, from head to the toes.
  • 3 horizontal zones, which are limited by the skeletal system of the body and bones of the feet.
MSploskaschema

The effect of experience of mrs. Hanne Marquardt led to implementation of three horizontal lines:

  • Shoulder line follows the joints of the feet between the instep and articles of the toes. The lines on the body are going from shoulder belt across through shoulder joint and between 7th cervical and 1st thoracic vertebrae, where are located organs of the neck and head.
  • Another line, indicated as a waist line, runs through the instep and tarsus. This line is then projected into the area of waist and it divides the rib cage from stomach, on the back it runs between 12th thoracic and 1st lumbar vertebrae. Here belong areas of the thorax and organs of the upper part of the stomach.
  • The heel line runs across the hell and it divides the heel bone into two halves. This line represents on the body the pelvic cavity, organs and pelvis bone.

We perform diagnosis and treatment on both foot soles. Different organs and body areas are searched thanks to longitudinal zones and transversal areas. Organs on the right side are reflected on the right leg, organs in the left half of the body then into the left leg. Pair organs are reflecting into both legs. Organs located close to the middle line are manifesting closer to the inner edge of the feet, and organs placed closer to the side are manifesting on the outer edge of the feet. Organs localized closer to the back surface of the body are manifested on the foot soles. The key role of these reflexive relations is played especially by vegetative nerve system.

Self massage is generally performed by thumb only. The second hand is holding the foot. Simultaneously you can treat the instep of the foot by your index finger. The basis is to relax and relieve the muscles of the feet and legs. Before you start to treat yourself, it is important to check your foot. Color, shape, condition of the longitudinal and transverse arches, calluses, rough or thin skin, cracks or source of skin diseases. We do not treat feet in a bad condition and we recommend to get a pedicure or medical examination.

Hanne Marquardt (born 1933) dedicated her whole life to studying reflexology. She worked on detailed description of development of the reflexive therapy. She did several key adaptations of the method, throughout her life she trained about ten thousand lecturers.

WHEN DO WE USE IT

We use it to support other physiotherapeutic rehabilitation methods. The pressure on the reflexive points affects activity and function of the organs, muscle tension or blocked joints.

WHEN DO WE NOT USE IT

In cases of skin diseases. It is also not ideal during pregnancy.

SOME THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS

  • Improved activity of metabolism
  • Improved activity of internal organs
  • Removing some spine blockages
  • Supported recovery
  • Improved digestion
  • Eliminated tiredness, insomnia

Exact diagnosis and condition of each organ can be determined from the reflexive zones according to the characteristic changes on the skin and in subcutaneous tissues, according to level of pain in the area of the foot soles. The points of the organs, which are disrupted, react to the massage with pain and the level of pain is determined the range of organ disruption.

Ideal affecting on the reflexive surfaces, for example by massage, can solve wide spectrum of health issues. Problems in the musculoskeletal system (painful joint and spine, blocked spine, migraines etc.) to disorders of the single functions of the organs to breathing organs and cardiovascular, digestive, urinary, sexual problems and disharmony in the psychological and emotional area. We can therefore affect the problems which are manifesting with acute, painful and sudden problems, even up to the chronic and long lasting problems.

Quality reflexive therapy can be offered only by an experienced and professionally trained therapist. In many situations, to a large degree anyone can help himself by self-massage. If it’s a sudden painful condition, we caress the specific surface. If the organ needs to be stimulated, we repeatedly and intensively press the zone. During chronic health issues, we cannot expect to be completely cured after first massage. For the best possible effect of the treatment it is necessary to absolve more therapies in ideal time intervals. Apart from that, it is also necessary to adjust the lifestyle: food, daily regime, splitting work and resting, and last but not least also relaxing psychologically. The way how we perceive reality around us has a visible effect on the condition of our organism.

Reflexive therapy significantly activates the immunity system, which directly support self-defensive ability and regeneration, which is natural to the human body. Although by civilizational lifestyle, negative effects of environment, amount of used medicaments and incorrect diet, we nearly “choked” our own immunity system. Reflexive therapy can effectively help during its activation and keeping the organism healthy. No massage devices are used during the therapy.

The effect of the reflexive treatment leads to intensive detoxification, therefore it is important to drink enough fluids. Rashes on the skin may appear temporarily, there can be increased production of mucus in the area of mucosa (respiratory tract - runny nose, cough, gynecological efflux…), fever may appear as well. Reaction is different by every individual and it can lasts for unspecified amount of time, from several minutes (fever, nausea), up to several days or even weeks (excluding exudate, skin manifestation). Reactions appear also in different time horizon since the massage is also individual, according to the disposition of the specific organism. These are natural manifestations, thanks to which the organism establishes balance.

Come and visit us at FYZIOklinika and see what it feels like to be charged with new energy. Our university educated physiotherapist can deal with the activation of the correct zones without any problems.

WE RECOMMEND IT TO EVERYONE

The most natural thing for person and his legs is without a doubt walking barefoot. Apart from that, the foot is not deformed by the foot, it is adequately stimulated by the uneven terrain. Painful sensitivity of the feet against each stone gradually disappears. It is not given by the foot getting used to it, but the massage of the painful reflexive surfaces harmonizes the activity of single organs. The surfaces of the healthy organs are not painful.

Use of reflexive therapy is versatile, from treatment of health issues, to deep relieve, removing stress and recovering the self-curing ability of the body.
