Activating the Core Stability

Activation of the core stability + Diaphragmatic breathing

Goal of the exercise:

  • Activation of the core muscles which allows you to hold correct posture
  • Stimulation of the thoracic diaphragm - main breathing muscle
  • Correction of the standing posture
  • Straightening the spine
  • Creating intra-abdominal pressure

 

Default position

- Lay on your back
- Place your soles on the mat
- Stretch all the way from top of your head to your pelvis
- Straighten your spine
- Slightly point your chin towards your chest
- Place your hands on your stomach

Phase 1

- Breathe in with your nose and stretch your stomach up towards the ceiling
- Lower your stomach as you exhale out through your mouth, but keep the oval shape of the trunk

Common mistakes

  • Inhale and consecutive pull of the chest towards the ears
  • Stomach being pulled in

How often to exercise

  • You can exercise daily, especially if you suffer from pain in your lumbar spine, when you have weakened abdominal muscles or when you suffer from insufficient involvement of the thoracic diaphrargm
